Recommendations

What inspired me most in HaGal Sheli’s story, and the message I'm trying to pass on to the teens and their families is: each and every teen is important and each and every teen can make it! HaGal Sheli takes the practice of surfing and through this platform teach teens how to overcome difficulties. It teaches them how to fall and how to get up, how to help one another, how to move forward and never give up.

Benny Ganz - Member of the Knesset and Former Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces

At ironSource, we practice entrepreneurship, in High-tech in creativity and in building an international brand… HaGal Sheli does the same thing! They practice entrepreneurship with the teens, with affecting their life trajectory through the ocean, through their experiences with their instructors, with themselves, with the sea. That is educational entrepreneurship! You speak to the kids, to the teens, you speak to the instructors and you immediately get ‘infected’ with this amazing thing called HaGal Sheli

Tomer Bar Ze’ev - Founder and CEO at ironSource

"I would like to thank Omer and Yaron for leading the "HaGal Sheli" Project at our school. As the founders and directors of the organization , you took a group of our school's students on an exceptional educational and ideological journey! You did it all with great love and endless responsibility. "HaGal Sheli" excels at taking the sport of surfing, which is very effective and appealing to young people, and turning it into a learning arena for the students; the program allows them to deal with challenges, encourages perseverance and determination, and just as important – helps them succeed and become part of a group that is thriving. Thank you for a significant program which had a substantial effect on the confidence and self-image of the students".

Sunny Carmeli- Principal of the Ort Geula High School, Tel Aviv

"As the person who coordinated with the program and accompanied it on behalf of the school, I can wholeheartedly testify that the program achieved every one of its ambitious goals, and more. Not only that, but this was accomplished in a pleasant, loving and captivating manner. The program's instructors are educators through and through; they entered the lives and the hearts of the students and became significant and influential figures in their personal lives. Every student who gets the chance to meet and work with these individuals will benefit from this encounter. The cooperation with the school, the ongoing updates, the desire to learn and adapt the educational program to the ever changing reality in the field, have all brought about constant improvement and progress".

Anat Gorenshtein- a teacher at Branco Weiss High School, Bat Yam

"We have a profound familiarity with the "HaGal Sheli" program after 3 years of ongoing cooperation. In the midst of the month of January, we could see that dealing with the forces of nature during winter requires personal empowerment and acknowledging the unique abilities which exist in every boy and girl. We, the "Migdalor” team, in cooperation with the Elem Foundation, see the "HaGal Sheli" program as an educational tool for working with youth and another avenue which can contribute to the reduction of various risk situations. We highly recommend the “HaGal Sheli” program".
Maayan Itzhaki and Nelly Michaeli – therapeutic coordinators in the Migdalor-Negba, Bat Yam

"I know the project very well, and undoubtedly it is an extremely important project with proven results. There is no doubt this project is innovative, professional and extraordinary. My warmest recommendations are enclosed, along with a blessing for the road.

Naama Goldberg – director of the Educational-Social Entrepreneurship Track at the Kibbutzim College

"We would like to thank the amazing team at "HaGal Sheli" for the empowering process our girls experienced. The instructoring team was highly professional, sensitive, tolerant, incredibly well-organized and highly responsible during the entire process. During the program it was clear the girls were undergoing a significant educational process through surfing – they learned to believe in themselves, to enjoy the experience of success, to give and receive positive feedback. They gained some important and significant tools for their toolbox, to aid them on their future path. I have no doubt that you have succeeded in instilling the girls with a love of the ocean and sports, and in essence succeeded in meeting the main goal of the project".

"After every meeting I received a detailed report about the meeting, including photos, comments and illuminating thoughts. A personal and moving bond was formed between the wonderful team of "HaGal Sheli" and my students. The students came to the meetings and continued coming even at the height of winter, which is not something to be taken for granted. I have no doubt the program had a substantial influence on the students' daily performance. There was an improvement in their school attendance record and their desire to set personal goals for themselves, while shedding some of the objections some of them displayed earlier. There is no doubt the program had a positive effect on their sense of accomplishment". "The close attention, great sensitivity and creativity on the part of the instructors made sure that each and every one of the kids underwent an extremely empowering and significant process. We have no doubt that this process will help them in the future, to catch the wave and ride it! We would like to thank you wholeheartedly and wish you great successes on this very important and significant venture!"

The Gush Etzion Group at HaGal Sheli

The girls group began its activity in the middle of January, knowing that dealing with the winter, especially for girls, requires personal empowerment and acknowledging the unique abilities of each of the girls. During their activities the girls underwent a fascinating experience, whose final products were displayed around town and received much praise. Building this format required delicate negotiation into the world of young women, understanding the various risk situations they are exposed to, and knowing the issues which they deal with during their daily lives. "HaGal Sheli" program was able to mediate between the sport of surfing, which is considered a predominantly masculine sport, and the world of teenage girls and all its facets. In addition to providing the girls with surfing skills, Yaron and Omer – the directors of the program, made sure to create an individual process for each of the girls, including monitoring their strengths and weaknesses, documenting and maintaining transparency throughout the process. There is no doubt that this process is the basis for the success of this program. We, the Lighthouse team, in cooperation with the Elem foundation, see this program as a tool in the informal work space with teenagers, and as an additional significant avenue for sharing difficulties and experiences. We are speechless".

"It is important to say that many of the teenagers participating in the various skill programs we offer them through ”Kidum”, come from a background of repeated failures in the education system, in their personal lives and family life. These teenagers often feel they lack skills and abilities, feel frustrated and weary of the system, and mostly of themselves. Learning skills works on their emotional abilities and their belief in themselves. We could see that during the "HaGal Sheli" program, the same kids who were not able to stay in school or continue the learning of other skills, showed an ability to persist, create personal connections, personal responsibility and tolerance for others. The kids came regularly and loved taking part in the program. We believe these kinds of skills, working on believing in oneself and on emotions, is part of the toolbox these kids need in order to experience success and strengthen their sense of accomplishment. In addition, it is important to say that these kids come from a difficult socio-economic situation which does not allow them to experience a sport such as surfing. "HaGal Sheli" has given them that possibility, including the option of borrowing wetsuits and surfboards whenever they want, on the condition they complete the program successfully".

Youth Advancement – Yehud-Monosson

"We are proud to support an organization who is as dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth as HaGal Sheli. Social change and specifically the issue of At-risk youth is one of the core issues the federation is dedicated to promoting and supporting. We are full of appreciation to the way HaGal Sheli is promoting its goals and the positive impact it has on so many teens in Israel. HaGal Sheli's leading values are creativity, thinking out of the box, motivation and great passion all working together for the benefit of at-risk youth. We are proud to have the possibility of supporting this kind of work and of continuing giving HaGal Sheli the support needed for their important and incredible work. Kol HaKavod!"

During the 2014-2015 school year at the Hila center in Ramat Gan ("professional skills development") we cooperated with the "HaGal Sheli" project and sent 12 boys and girls to a surfing course. The course included 17 meetings in the winter months, at the Riviera Beach in Bat Yam. The educational team of "HaGal Sheli" stood out in their professionalism, freshness, their educational approach which was containing, loving and empowering. The personal quality of the instructors served as a great inspiration for the kids' development during the program and for us as a unit for the advancement of youth. The training program took place at the lovely Riviera beach (which is inspiring in and of itself). The program included, along with physical fitness and surfing, an emphasis on team work, values and the processing of personal and group experiences. Undoubtedly, and mostly due to the personal qualities of the team, this is an excellent program which provides an optimal response for at risk youth and provides a fertile ground for development. We highly recommend the program and would be interested in taking part in the future as well".

Yoram Levin – Director of the "Hila" Center, Ramat Gan

came, along with the therapy coordinator and one of the group coordinators at the facility, to the project's graduation ceremony. Before the ceremony we were able to see the impressive accomplishments of the girls in the field of surfing. I was very happy to meet the staff of "HaGal Sheli"; they seemed to be a very professional and committed team, passionate about their therapeutic and educational work in a nautical environment. I was very impressed with the facility, the pleasant work environment and the equipment, but above all else the sense of success and satisfaction which the girls were able to achieve, despite all the difficulties, managing to "catch the wave" and make it to the finish line. I highly recommend expanding the participation of "Youth Protection Services" programs in general and that of the Tzofia facility in particular, in the "HaGal Sheli" program.
